Terrorism warnings must not be taken lightly – Pieter Groenewald

FF Plus leader says South Africans should take these seriously, even if the SSA disagrees

Terrorism warnings from America and Britain must not be taken lightly

27 October 2022

Note must be taken of the warnings issued by America and Britain about possible terrorist attacks in the Sandton area over the coming weekend.

I determined through direct enquiry that the warning issued by the American Embassy, which was later also corroborated by Britain, is in fact genuine.

There is a large gathering planned in Sandton over the weekend, and people must decide for themselves whether they want to attend it.

The South African government's State Security Agency (SSA) responded to the alert by saying that there is no evidence to support the warnings and that it will inform the public in time if any such evidence is found.

The response makes it seem as if the warnings from the Americans and British are not being taken seriously.

In the FF Plus’s view, American and British security structures must be taken more seriously than the SSA, which could not even foresee, or prevent, last year's riots.

The public must, nevertheless, ensure their own safety at all times, and must decide for themselves whether or not they are willing to pay any attention to these kinds of warnings.
