The NDR is the long term threat - Afrikanerbond & Co

Ad Hoc Committee for Protection of Property Rights says Malema is not the only enemy of democracy

Statement by the Ad Hoc Committee for the Protection of Property Rights, June 29 2011

MALEMA IS NOT THE ONLY ENEMY OF DEMOCRACY- A JOINT INITIATIVE NEEDED AGAINST THE NDR

In 2008 the Ad Hoc Group for the Protection of Property Rights successfully mobilised civil society against the Expropriation Bill, with the result that the unconstitutional Bill was withdrawn.

Since November 2010 various workshops were held and the Ad Hoc Group, comprising a number of political parties and organisations from civil society was reactivated. The Ad Hoc group noted with concern a number of trends which are at the core of many of South Africa 's problems and with policy implementation. Therefore, statements about nationalisation, expropriation of land, a lacklustre fight against crime and the failing state must be evaluated against the following:

The ANC government is ideologically driven by the National Democratic Revolution, which form the basis for government policy and pronouncements. Statements by Mr. Julius Malema's about whites and nationalisation and Minister Gugile Nkwinti pronouncements on land reform must therefore be seen against this background.

The ANC government's lack of skills and ability. There may be a desire by some to do the right thing, but because of cadre deployment there is a severe lack of ability to give effect to policy. The catastrophic result is decay in government and a collapsing state.

The urge by ANC cadres to self-enrichment leading to an increase in corruption and theft.

The ANC's internal leadership survival leads to a lack of service delivery. The need for political survival is far greater than decision making with the focus  instead on the next leadership election and policy conference.

In light of the above, the Ad Hoc Group noted with pleasure the initiative by Solidarity  to expose Mr Julius Malema, domestically, and abroad. This is only one element of the overall initiative required and the Ad Hoc Group has since May 2011 worked towards a comprehensive strategy to combat the National Democratic Revolution. This strategy, which will soon be launched, must have wide support from minority groups, and must represent a broad South African interest. The battle against the NDR will also include national and international initiatives.

The above comprehensive strategy against the NDR is not a short-term initiative, but will have several dimensions over a long period. The main focus will be the ANC-alliance's support and continued endorsement of the National Democratic Revolution which gnaws like a rat on the pillars of a successful South Africa . As long as the defunct National Democratic Revolution is the cornerstone for ANC policy and for as long as the NDR threatens our constitutional democracy, civil society and its institutions must resist and propose alternatives. This is the focus of the initiative which will start in the near future.
