Tshwane Speaker MONC: ActionSA to seek date on unopposed roll

Party says City, EFF, and Speaker failed to file opposing papers

Tshwane Speaker MoNC: City of Tshwane, EFF & Speaker fail to file opposing papers - ActionSA to seek date on unopposed roll

27 September 2023

Following several extensions granted by ActionSA, the City of Tshwane, EFF and the Speaker of Tshwane Council, have failed to file papers opposing our application to have the conduct of Tshwane Speaker declared unlawful. This is despite their filing notices to oppose.

This is with respect to Speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana dismissing two previous motions of no confidence against him.

With Tshwane already mired by an 8 week-long municipal workers strike, and on precarious financial footing, the residents of Tshwane need stable and productive council meetings so that it can effectively perform its oversight over the Executive free from the nefarious intentions of the ANC/EFF-sponsored Speaker.

ActionSA will therefore approach the court requesting a date on the unopposed roll as soon as possible.

Our approach to the courts, in July this year, is premised on the reality that the multi-party coalition in Tshwane will not achieve stability with an ANC/EFF-sponsored Speaker at the helm to facilitate their unlawful power grabs.

ActionSA is, therefore, asking the court to reject the Speaker’s decision to dismiss the two previous MoNCs against him, and for a MoNC to take place at the next available council sitting which should be presided over by the City Manager.

Councillor Ndzwanana ascended to the seat of Speaker on the back of a dodgy EFF-ANC agreement to vote for small and minority parties in a bid to destabilise coalition governments ahead of the important 2024 national and provincial elections where the ANC is likely to be removed.

ActionSA will continue to place the needs of the residents of Tshwane first and will not allow the ANC and EFF to get away by playing political games. We believe that the courts are the only remaining option, and we look forward to the matter being resolved soon.
