UJ's ANC course plan would destroy its credibility - FF+

Anton Alberts says university considering accrediting party's internal training material

UJ loses credibility because of collusion with ANC

The Freedom Front plus warned the University of Johannesburg (UJ), that its credibility as a university would be irreparably damaged through any association with the ANC. According to media reports in the Beeld of 20 August 2012, the UJ is considering providing training for ANC members with ANC training material. "The idea that a university could possibly accredit a political party's training material is frightening, to say the least," was the reaction of Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus' parliamentary spokesperson on Higher Education (see report).

"It is of the greatest importance that a university retains its autonomy at all cost, or else the institution will no longer be a platform where knowledge distribution and research can take place freely. If the UJ is to approve the training, the university would enslave itself ideologically and it will be transformed to merely another ANC cadre camp. The FF Plus will therefore be be addressing a letter to the UJ management to ensure that the integrity of the tertiary institution remains intact," Alberts, who is an alumnus of the university when it was still known as the Rand Afrikaans University, said.
