SACP statement on the death of Clive John Derby-Lewis
The South African Communist Party (SACP) has learnt today about the death of Clive John Derby-Lewis, one of the cold-blooded murderers of our General Secretary Comrade Chris Hani. The SACP is first and foremost a caring organisation, that strives to create a socialist society devoid of 'dog-eat-dog' mentality. Indeed it is unfortunate that our late General Secretary, Comrade Chris Hani, was never given an opportunity to live his life until the age of 80 years.
It is also unfortunate that Derby-Lewis died without disclosing all the circumstances and other possible participants who were involved in the assassination of Comrade Chris Hani. Given this, the SACP will, at its next Central Committee from 2 to 4 December, once more discuss whether to rescucitate its campaign for the opening of a full inquest into the circumstances under which Comrade Chris Hani was assassinated, so that the likes of Derby-Lewis will never perish without the truth coming out.
The SACP continues to express its solidarity with Comrade Limpho Hani and her family. Every time something happens involving the now late Derby-Lewis, the Hani family is reminded of the cowardly assassination of Comrade Chris.
