Western Cape Government wins significant Batho Pele Awards

The Western Cape Government has again scooped gold at the national Batho Pele Awards, held over the weekend – 11 November 2016. The annual awards recognise and reward the outstanding efforts of government departments from across South Africa, including local, provincial and national.

The Department of the Premier obtained the Gold Award for the Best Ethical and professional Department – for a second year running. The Department of the Premier also won the Gold Award for the Best Functioning Provincial Department

Premier Helen Zille thanked the Western Cape Government professional staff for their “dedication and  tireless efforts”.

“Our government is built on the hard work and professional approach of our team. This is good news, and another milestone on the road to building a capable state and a high opportunity, open society for all in South Africa,” said Premier Zille.

The Western Cape Government was represented at the ceremony by the Director-General Advocate Brent Gerber.

Gerber said the achievements "show that some of our key measures and programmes are bearing fruit. We will continue to champion clean governance and efficiency going forward".

Silver Award – Dr Marianne Tiemensma (Victoria Hospital)

Bronze Award – Mr Stephen Parenzee (Mitchells Plain Community Health Centre)

Category: Best Head of Provincial Department

Silver Award – Adv Brent Gerber (Department of the Premier)

Category: Best Functioning Provincial Department

Bronze Award - Department of Community Safety
