DA NS says AG's report highlighted fact that "20 (83%) of the 24 auditees in the province achieving clean audit outcomes"

DA-run Western Cape achieves most clean audit outcomes

26 November 2015

The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the report by the Auditor General (AG) on national and provincial audit outcomes, and his acknowledgement of the stellar performance of the DA-run Western Cape.

The AG’s report confirms that the Western Cape achieved more clean audit outcomes than any other province.

The report highlighted “the positive trend towards clean administration in the [Western Cape], which started gaining momentum in 2012, continued through to 2015 with 20 (83%) of the 24 auditees in the province achieving clean audit outcomes.”

Of the 24 auditees:

Two departments and one entity improved to clean audit status;

10 departments and seven entities maintained their clean audit status; and

One newly formed entity attained a clean audit.

The ANC-run Gauteng trails far behind in second place with only 54% of their auditees achieving clean audit outcomes.

The successful turnaround of the Western Cape by the DA, from the dismal state it was left in by the ANC when it lost power in 2009, has resulted in the province becoming the standard-bearer of clean and responsible government.

As the groundswell of dissatisfaction with the ANC’s corruption grows, the DA will seek to expand its brand of good governance to new municipalities and metros, such as Nelson Mandela Bay and Tshwane, in the 2016 Local Government Elections.

The DA remains the only party capable of building an open-opportunity society based on the values of Freedom, Fairness and Opportunity.
