SAMWU on COSATU CEC
03 February 2015
The South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) has noted with concern media reports that the union is part of unions that have boycotted the COSATU CEC that is currently underway. We dispute this lies being spread through the media as malicious seeking to divide the union.
SAMWU has a full delegation to COSATU CEC which is attending. The union held a special NEC which mandated the union to ensure full participation of all COSATU constitutional meetings. We are of the view that the challenges that the federation is currently facing can only be addressed through engagement from within COSATU and not through boycotts.
We reiterate that SAMWU has no standing mandate from any structure of the union to boycott any of COSATU meetings. We further plead with our sister unions within COSATU to attend meetings of the federation.
