SAHRC DISTANCES ITSELF FROM CLAIMS BY MALEMA
The South African Human Rights Commission has noted with concern reports in the weekend media in which the former president of the African National Congress Youth League, Mr Julius Malema claims that the Commission, or members of its staff, have invited him to address or speak to staff at the Commission.
In the report in the Sunday Independent dated 16th September 2012, Mr Malema allegedly said: "I am not going to stop to be with the masses of our people, if I am invited I will go. Soldiers invited me, I have got a list of invitations from squatter camps, those striking in Lephalale (in Limpopo), staff from Human Rights Commission, and Black Lawyers Association."
The South African Human Rights Commission would like to state that the Chairperson of the Commission, Adv M L Mushwana, as well as the Chief Executive Officer, Mr K Ahmed, who heads the staff of the Commission, have not issued an invitation to Mr Malema to address staff.
