We don't support Services SETA's case against Nzimande - COSATU

Federation calls for a special NEDLAC discussion on re-establishment challenges

COSATU distances itself from Services SETA legal action against Minister Nzimande

The Congress of South African Trade Unions has taken note of the threats by the Services Seta to take the legal action against Higher Education & Training Minister Blade Nzimande (see Business Report article).

The federation does not support such legal action as the most constructive way to proceed to deal with some of the difficulties which have arisen in the Seta landscape re-establishment processes and we call on the Services Seta management to abandon their plans.

Instead, COSATU prefers that a special NEDLAC discussion on the Seta re-establishment challenges be held. We have good tri-partite institutions where issues of concern can be addressed. Running to Court is a premature response.

COSATU has also noted reports that BUSA intends to join the legal action by the Services Seta. We call on BUSA to urgently clarify what its real stance is, since we are receiving conflicting reports regarding whether or not they intend to pursue legal action.

COSATU will, over the next few days, formally submit a request for a NEDLAC special discussion on the matter.
