ANC STATEMENT ON 18 SEPT BY-ELECTIONS
The African National Congress extends its gratitude to the multitude of South Africans who came out to cast their votes in the various by-elections held throughout the country yesterday, 18 September 2013. The ANC contested 10 wards in the following provinces North West, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.
The African National Congress retained all the wards it had won in the 2011 Local Government Elections except for one ward in the Tlokwe Municipality in the North West Province. The ANC conveys its gratitude to our volunteers for delivering for a deserved victory in the various wards. These by-elections, like many that have come before them, are a testament to the unshaken confidence our people continue to have in the African National Congress to create a better life for all and a South Africa that is better today than it was in 1994.
As our country prepares to mark and celebrate 20 years of democracy, the African National Congress take shall full advantage of this renewed and decisive mandate from our people to build on the significant strides made since the advent of democracy. The unwavering support the ANC enjoys from the majority of our people consistently inspires us to work even harder, together, to craft a tomorrow that is even better than today.
