Nazism: Also act against student council chairperson at Wits now
The comments of Mr. Mcebo Dlamini, student council chairperson at Wits, about Hitler and Nazism is provocative, extremely insensitive and seriously reflects on the level of education at some of our universities.
The fact that he furthermore singles out white people who each have an element of Hitler in him or herself is racist and most probably hate speech.
The FF Plus will be laying a complaint about Mr. Dlamini’s comments with the Human Rights Commission. If these types of comments are left unchallenged, students view it as a nod of approval and encouragement. That is why the FF Plus is waiting for the minister of higher education, Dr. Blade Nzimande’s reaction to the comments.
Last year, when part of the manner in which female students greeted seniors at the NWU Puk campus entailed the stretching out of their arms toward the residence, it exploded in the media as being Nazism. The naïve female students’ denials that it was not the idea behind the greeting, was not accepted.
Minister Blade Nzimande, minister of Higher Education, personally intervened in the NWU case with various media releases against the university and the students. It eventually resulted in the Wessels Commission of Investigation at the NWU.
