Wilgehof Primary School principal should be suspended - Patricia Kopane

DA FState leader says decision to suspend teacher implicated in racial incident does not go far enough

Racist school principal should be suspended

The Democratic Alliance calls on  Free State Education MEC Tate Pule Makgoe to suspend the  Wilgehof Primary School principal  with immediate effect following racist allegations at his school.

Although the organisation welcomes the Human Rights Commission investigation and the suspension of the teacher in question, we believe that the principal knew about the racism complaints way before they were reported to the parents but did not act.

If the principal cared enough and did his job properly, he would have known about the racist remarks and seen the old South African flag and a picture of expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malemaalongside that of a monkey on the classroom wall.

The fact that it took an HRC complaint for the Education Department to be made aware of this racism proves that the principal is not doing his job and monitoring what is happening inside his school.

We cannot tolerate such disgusting incidents to happen at our schools under the supervision of a school principal.

MEC Makgoe must suspend the principal immediately as he had failed to teach our children the value of human dignity.
