Withdraw charges against our leadership! - ANCYL Gauteng

PEC commits itself to rally behind national executive led by Julius Malema

STATEMENT OF THE GAUTENG PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE ANCYL FOLLOWING THE SPECIAL PEC MEETING HELD ON THE 23RD AUGUST 2011

The Provincial Executive Committee of the African National Congress Youth League in Gauteng convened a special meeting on the 23rd August 2011 in Johannesburg. The meeting was held to discuss the charges that have been leveled by the National Disciplinary Committee of the African National Congress against the leadership of the ANCYL.

The PEC views the charges leveled against our leadership in a serious light and is making an impassioned call on the African National Congress to withdraw the charges brought against the Office Bearers of the League. We believe that the challenges facing us arise out of differing views on a political opinion and not out of ill-discipline.

We further reiterate our support for the views expressed by the National Executive Committee, as these views were the mandate given to the NEC by the delegates at the National Congress held in June 2011. It is our assertion therefore that should the ANC be opposed to the views expressed by the membership of the ANC Youth League, such matter should be resolved through engagement and dialogue, in the true spirit of debate and deliberation that has characterized the Congress movement, not through the institution of disciplinary proceedings.

The PEC has committed itself to rally behind the National Executive Committee as led by Cde Julius Malema. To this end, we will be embarking on a series of intense engagements with all our structures to clarify our position to our members and also mobilise them to defend not only our inalienable right to debate and discuss, but also our right to be guided by the ANC without fearing that the wrath of the organisation will be brought against us when we differ.

We once again reaffirm our commitment to the generational mission to fight for Economic Freedom in Our Lifetime. We remain resolute to work together with our elected leadership, membership and all structures of society on the real challenges facing our people namely poverty, inequality and unemployment. We will not be shaken or deterred in this resolve and hope for a speedy political solution to the current impasse delaying us.

Statement issued by Cde Ayanda Kasa-Ntsobi, ANCYL Gauteng Provincial Secretary on behalf of the Provincial Executive Committee in the province, August 24 2011
