Employment of members of the South African National Defence Force

President Jacob Zuma has today, 24 April 2015, informed Parliament that he has employed 338 members of the South African National Defence Force to assist the South African Police Service (SAPS) to maintain law and order in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and any other area in the Republic of South Africa as the need arises.

This employment is authorised in accordance with the provisions of section 201(2)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, and is for the period 21 April 2015 to 30 June 2015.

The expenditure expected to be incurred is R 4 242 448.
