YCLSA disgusted by sacking of 16 Generations cast members

League strongly condemns arrogance displayed by the production house

YCLSA statement on the Generations cast sacking

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] is disgusted by the bad treatment suffered by the 16 actors from the popular SABC 1 soapie Generations at the hands of MMSV Productions and ultimately their sacking. We strongly condemn the arrogance portrayed by the production house in dealing with the matter thus jeopardising the future of the soapie.

We support these workers unconditionally in their fight for decent wages and better working conditions. Many workers in the industry pass away as paupers because of the meagre salaries they earn. We call on all other workers in the industry to come out in support of these workers and also share their stories in relation to exploitation and unfavourable working conditions.

About 8 Million people might lose watching their much-loved soapie because of the greediness by MMSV Productions. This show makes a lot of money for both the broadcaster and the production house more so that it is also broadcasted in other parts of Africa. We call on the production house to nullify the dismissal of these workers and to negotiate with them better salaries. The production house and the broadcaster must stop shifting the blame and give workers the salaries they deserve.
