PYU congratulates the people of Zimbabwe on hosting an incident free election

The Pan African Youth Union (PYU) commends and congratulates the people of Zimbabwe for hosting a successful and incident free election, which has been endorsed by the main observe groups as free and peaceful. This is a clear demonstration of the will by the people of Zimbabwe for self-determination without any undue influence from United States and Britain imperialist forces. "It is a clear demonstration of the eagerness of the people of Zimbabwe to put aside their differences and undertake a process of rebuilding their country," says PYU President Andile Lungisa.

As some are tempted to cast doubt over the Zimbabwe elections, it must also be noted that the election system in Zimbabwe is different from other countries as it is constituency based and as such a voter is only allowed to vote where they are registered. As such if one is not registered in a particular area they would therefore not be allowed to vote in that area.

"It has also come as no surprise that the United States and Britain have cast doubt over the credibility of the outcome of the election result. These are the same forces who are desperate to continue with their imperialist agenda of plundering the resources and mineral wealth of Zimbabwe and they know very well that with President Robert Mugabe's Zanu PF at the helm, their chances of controlling the destiny of Zimbabweans is next to nothing," says Lungisa.

"As the youth of the African continent we are inspired by the decisive leadership demonstrated by President Mugabe in dealing with the land question as well as the mines and the indeginesation project. The 61 % overwhelming majority handed to Zanu PF is a vote of confidence on the part of Zimbabweans in affirming the leadership of President Mugabe," he says.

The PYU therefore wishes the people of Zimbabwe well in rebuilding their country and once more taking charge of their destiny.
