The DA Carries the Legacy of Apartheid, Not That of Madiba
Helen Zille claims that; "the ANC has given up on Mandela's legacy. After Sunday, we've only heard of racism and division," she is reported to have said. She further claims Mandela would never have done this and that the DA is about bringing people together as one nation in line with the vision of Nelson Mandela.
What we are witnessing here is Zille masquerading as the self-appointed spokesperson and custodian of the legacy of Mandela - one of the greatest icons to have emerged from within the ranks of the ANC. Zille carelessly speaks about Mandela as if he is no longer on this earth with us to defend his own legacy - her desperation legitimizes her narrow racist agenda makes her totally oblivious to the fact that Mandela is still alive and perfectly capable of speaking for himself.
To remind Zille just yesterday the former president of the ANC, the bearer of Isithwalandwe (highest Award in the ANC, received by few dedicated and outstanding cadres of revolution), and yet again voted for the ANC in an unbroken pattern of political consistency.
The last time we checked Mandela was still a disciplined and loyal member of the African National Congress - the very party that Zille says is undermining his legacy. If Zille took the time to listen to Mandela when he was still the president she would have recalled that Mandela himself has consistently said that he was able to achieve what he achieved precisely because of the many good man and women who worked with him in the ANC.
The Mandela, Mbeki, and Zuma governments are all ANC governments and Zille must not conveniently separate their successes from the ANC.
