Cosatu condemns Zille’s refusal to provide Public Protector with information
2 February 2016
Cosatu condemns Premier Zille for refusing to provide the Public Protector with information about the state of Public Set Up and Funded Old Age Homes. Cosatu wrote to the Premier in 2012 about the funding mechanism for old age homes that preference Whites against Coloureds and Africans. Cosatu has pointed out then that the Provincial Government has effectively commercialised the old age homes that put them out of reach of the majority of black people.
The collusion to commercialise the old age homes have been driven by the DA Administration in the Provincial Government and the managers of the old age homes, many of whom were set up by concessions from National Government. This is part of the racist agenda of the DA Government to perpetuate the Apartheid generational advantages of white people in Western Cape. This move of the administration has seen the cost of these public facilities that were set up to assist poor whites, now effectively only being accessible to the richer income group who are mainly white. The Premier denied Cosatu the information in 2012 and is now refusing to provide it to the public Protector. This information will expose the DA racist agenda. That is why the Premier refuses to make the information available to the Public Protector.
Cosatu demands that the information be made available to the Public Protector so that we can see who is behind the racist agenda of keeping the facilities in the Western Cape white.
