Police minister accepted resignation, amicable and mutual agreement reached concerning departure

ZWELI MNISI RESIGNS AS SPOKESPERSON AT THE MINISTRY OF POLICE

PRETORIA - 04 February 2014. On the 31st January 2014, I tendered my resignation as Chief Director: Communications/Spokesperson at the Ministry of Police. I am currently serving a one-month notice and will leave at the end of February 2014.

I was approached and offered a senior management position in the private sector, with one of the multinationals within the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) industry. I have accepted the offer. Secondly, due to the busy work schedule over the past four years, I had to put my studies on hold. I have now taken a decision to further my studies.

Subsequently, I held various discussions with my boss, the Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa and he accepted my resignation. We reached an amicable and mutual agreement concerning my departure.

"Zweli has served the Ministry of Police with excellence, dedication and I am certain this is a sentiment that is shared by many people. Following this career growth opportunity which was offered to him, we had various discussions. Much as I would have liked to still have him on board, I do understand that this new position provides him with a platform to advance his goals and career," stated the Minister.

"I sincerely thank him for his contribution in driving our communications strategy over the past four years. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours," added Minister Mthethwa.

I am humbly grateful to Minister Mthethwa for his leadership, guidance and mentorship during my tenure. He believed in my capabilities. He afforded and entrusted me with a platform to apply my skills in communicating Government's objectives around the safety and security of all South Africans.
