Zwelinzima Vavi lying to the public - NEHAWU

Union says suspended COSATU GS should stop trying to hide behind Fikile Majola when dodging allegations directed against him (Feb 12)

NEHAWU CAUTIONS CDE ZWELINZIMA VAVI TO STOP USING THE NAME OF ITS GENERAL SECRETARY,CDE FIKILE MAJOLA, WHEN DEALING WITH ALLEGATIONS LEVELLED AGAINST HIM BY COSATU

NEHAWU notes the responses contained in the on-line version of the Mail and guardian attributed to Cde Zwelinizima Vavi with respect to allegations of possible conflict in relation to the employment of his stepdaughter.

He is quoted saying: "The child is not staying with me. I can't take responsibility why she was employed ... She stays with [general secretary of the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union] Slovo [Fikile] Majola. The young lady explained everything [to the auditors] and how she met with Slovo. Why turn around and say I am conflicted?"

Cde Zwelinzima Vavi is lying to the public.

Previously the said comrade lied publicly on Carte Blanche telling the nation that he was with the administrative secretary of COSATU in the interview to employ a female COSATU staff member that he confessed to having an extra marital affair with.

Every time issues about the possible conflict of interest have arisen in relation to the employment of her step-daughter the comrade sought to use the name of the General Secretary of NEHAWU as a scapegoat to the genuine issues of good governance at hand. The General secretary of NEHAWU doesn't live with and has never at any stage lived with Cde Zwelinzima's stepdaughter.

Even if it was true by any stretch of imagination what Cde Vavi alleges, the onus lies with him as General Secretary of COSATU to always act in a manner that is above reproach. In this case he ought to have known better and duly informed the relevant structures of COSATU of this possible conflict.

No amount of lying will deter COSATU and its affiliates from dealing with issues at hand. It is indeed saddening when lies are peddled at this level.
