We didn't give Motala a certificate of appreciation - NUM

Union says it will launch an investigation into authenticity of document

NUM refutes Motala's claim

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has noted the beleaguered self-appointed champion of the unions Enver Motala's insinuations in a weekly newspaper on Friday (see Mail & Guardian report). The National Union of Mineworkers has never awarded Mr Motala a certificate of appreciation last year or in any other year whatsoever. The NUM is alarmed that the report suggests that the reporter herself was shown the certificate and the NUM will launch an investigation on the authenticity of the document.

It is unimaginable that the NUM could have issued a certificate of appreciation to Mr Motala at a time when the union itself was at the forefront asking him to recuse himself from the Aurora liquidation process.

The NUM fully supports the actions of the Master Court and strongly believe that such action was actually long overdue.
