ANC rejects mob justice

The ANC Western Cape denounces any incitement of people to take the law into their own hands. Vigilantism is not justice. It is a form of criminal behaviour that is punishable under the law. Those who participate in these inglorious acts are just as guilty as those against whom they may act or seek to act (see News24 report on Andile Lili's remarks - PW).

The ANC recognizes that South Africa is a democratic country with a Constitution. The ANC we fought for a fair justice system and that the rule of law must prevail at all times in a democratic society that recognises the rights of victims as well as the principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

The ANC also recognizes that the Constitution provides for a fair, impartial and independent judiciary. Due process must be followed and the law should take its course.

Hence the ANC will not tolerate any call for mob justice by any member and will act (in accordance with its Mangaung resolutions) against those that may work against the ANC, its policies and principles, says ANC Western Cape secretary Faiez Jacobs.
