MKP statement on the 11 September 2024 by-elections
12 September 2024
uMkhonto weSizwe Party congratulates all the Volunteers, Ground Forces and Commanders of the organisation who played a decisive and inspirational role in the 11th of September 2024 By-Elections. We particularly convey our gratitude to the Volunteers, Ground Forces and Councillor Thamsanqa Pat Madlala of Ward 14 Ray Nkonyeni for leading the MK Party to a decisive and clear victory. The MK Party in Ward 14 Ray Nkonyeni defeated the reactionary forces of the so called Government of National Unity despite the fact that they abused State resources and institutions to campaign in the Ward.
We commend and appreciate the work of the organisation in all the Wards in South Africa, particularly in Wards 33 and 35 in eThekwini, Ward 4 in Nkandla, Ward 12 Mogale City, Ward 4 Mpofana, Ward 21 in Johannesburg and Ward 09 where we tragically lost our Councillor candidate a day before the By-elections. We once again send our condolences to the friends and family of Cde Farhaad Ismail Mitha.
What we have learnt from these By-Elections is that our people love and trust uMkhonto weSizwe Party. We have also learnt that members of different communities, traditional and religious leaders always want to be closely consulted on the choice of candidates our organisation selects as candidates.
uMkhonto weSizwe Party commits that moving forward and in preparation for the 2026 Local Government Elections, our organisation will institutionalise deep and intimate forms of community consultation and engagement prior to selection of Councillor candidates. Our success in this by-election also marks a significant milestone as we work towards expanding our influence in local governance. We once again congratulate and commend the work done by the Volunteers, Ground Forces and Candidates of the MKP for a job well done. Aluta Continua!
