EFF welcomes the decision by Parliament to debate Phala Phala report on 6th of December
17 November 2022
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) welcomes the decisive decision by the Programming Committee of Parliament, which has resolved to convene a debate on the Phala Phala Report on the 6th of December 2022.
The Section 89 Independent Panel, which was established to investigate whether there is prima facie evidence to proceed with an impeachment process on Cyril Ramaphosa was due to release its report today. However, through political manoeuvring and the complicity of a factional Speaker of Parliament, an extension was granted for the submission of the report to the 30th of November 2022, a day before the last sitting of Parliament for the year.
It is without a shadow of doubt that the plan was to ensure that Ramaphosa heads into the elective conference of the ANC, where he seeks a second term, without being exposed for his criminal activity on Phala Phala Farm. Ideally, those who are determined to cover-up the crimes of Phala Phala will not release any information regarding what happened on the farm, until Ramaphosa has secured his political interests The EFF is pleased that the plan to delay holding Ramaphosa accountable for laundering money, abduction, concealment of crime and misuse of state resources has failed dismally, due to the efforts of the EFF and principled opposition parties who refused to allow justice to be delayed to suit Ramaphosa's political aspirations.
Furthermore, based on the possible and likely punitive recommendations of the Phala Phala report, the EFF will explore mechanisms to ensure Parliament sits on a special basis should the need arise, to implement recommendations from the panel.
