Tshwane: GOOD Hopes Moya will bring much needed stability

9 October 2024

The GOOD Party wishes to extend our congratulations to the new Mayor of Tshwane, Nasiphi Moya. As GOOD we expect Moya to lead the City with a clear vision, integrity and dedication. We are optimistic that Moya will bring much-needed stability to the capital and improve service delivery.

Last month, GOOD was one of the parties in the opposition benches that voted in favour of ousting then Mayor Cilliers Brink.

The continued decline of the City could not be left unchecked.

The 2022/23 Audit Outcome painted a bleak picture of the state of the municipality, highlighting several issues around continued mismanagement and maladministration of funds.

The findings released by the Auditor General indicate a dismissal failure by the previous Mayor with 12 irregularities found ranging from unauthorised expenditure of R423.3 million, fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R2.8 billion, and irregular expenditure of R13 billion.

At the end of June 2024, Eskom was owed R4.5 billion, while supply chain management processes remain a huge challenge and compromise how tenders are processed and awarded.

Townships have been heavily neglected, where illegal dumping and sewerage spills have become the order of the day. In areas such as Tswaing in Ward 13, the community has been without electricity and water for many years.

The City of Tshwane deserves a dedicated, competent mayor who will provide sustainable financial and good governance practices.

GOOD wishes Moya all the best in her new role but we will continue to hold her and her executive accountable.
