President commended for assent of Public Procurement Bill – BBC

Organisation says in their view, this is the most important legislation, secondary only to the Constitution

The BBC commends President Ramaphosa for assenting to the Public Procurement Bill

24 July 2024

The Black Business Council (BBC) commends H.E. President Ramaphosa for signing into law the long-awaited Public Procurement Bill. This is a historic moment in our democracy.

In our view, this is the most important legislation, secondary only to the South African Constitution. This legislation will ensure that the state is able to set aside procurement opportunities for blacks, women, youth and persons with disabilities. It will make it possible for President Ramaphosa to implement the 40% set asides for women.

Hopefully, the implementation of the Public Procurement Bill will trigger inclusive participation of the historical excluded individuals into the mainstream economy. It must further deepen localisation and re-industrialisation.

The BBC will work with National Treasury to ensure that the regulations that are going to be developed will realise the spirit and objectives of the primary legislation. We call upon National Treasury to move with speed, in this regard.
