DA requests criminal investigation into allegations of illegal bugging at TUT
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has received disturbing information concerning the bugging of the offices of top management officials from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). This activity allegedly took place during the tenure of Professor Johnny Molefe.
Impeccable sources have informed TUT's Administrator of the installation of illegal surveillance devices in the offices of top management officials. This type of action is illegal in terms of the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communications-related Information Act NO 7 of 2002.
Professor Molefe's period in office has been overshadowed by his suspected involvement in illicit commercial developments on the TUT campus, his fraudulent doctorate and questionable administration skills. Professor Themba Mosia of the North-West University has since been appointed as administrator of TUT, effectively suspending Professor Molefe's position. However, allegations of malpractice continue to haunt TUT and place the University's reputation in disrepute.
The DA will be requesting a police investigation into these allegations of illegal surveillance. TUT is South Africa's largest residential University and a vital part of our higher education system. Damage to the integrity of this institution and the subsequent affects on education cannot be allowed to continue.
