"Curse of an ancient grave!" - Daily Sun

"No pease in RDP where nothing works and a family fights" - front page lead, August 21 2015

Daily Sun (August 21 2015) - MAPULE couldn’t understand why she and her husband were
always fighting.

Now she thinks she has the answer.

SHE DISCOVERED A MYSTERY TOMBSTONE IN HER YARD!

While digging up earth to plant flowers recently, Mapule Mampane (41) hit what felt like a rock. She decided to dig it up as she didn’t want to plant around it.

That’s when she found the tombstone!

Shocked Mapule of Thala section in Kwa-Guqa, near Witbank, called neighbours to see her scary discovery.

“The grave belongs to Poulos Mashiya, who was buried in January 1948,” she said. They don’t know who he was.

Mapule explained how peace went out the window when she and her husband moved into the RDP house four years ago.

They fought over everything – big and small – until he left a year ago.

“We didn’t know what caused this. We would go to sleep happy, but start arguing and fighting in the morning.

“Although he moved out, we are lovey-dovey when we meet in the street, as if nothing happened.”

Mapula said her aunt also left the house after fighting with her husband over little things.

She said she would leave the house if she found no peace.

Mapula told of strange sounds on the roof and her baby crying continuously when darkness came.

Even her appliances acted up.

“My stove, fridge, radio and TV don’t work in this house.”

And yet her appliances worked perfectly when she plugged them in next door.

“Clearly, the grave has something to do with all this.”

Emalahleni municipal spokesman Lebo Mofokeng said they will seek the services of a health inspector who deals with such cases.

But he said it could take six months and Mapula should be patient.
