"Hurry up and die!" - Daily Sun

"Relative butchers gogo because he wanted her house!" - front page lead, April 20 2015

Daily Sun (April 20 2015) - GOGO Sondi feared a young relative who couldn’t wait for her to die.

Her family said he wanted her RDP house.

SHE ENDED UP HACKED TO DEATH WITH A PANGA!

Gogo Sondi Mjokwe (74) was killed days after being robbed at home.

Sondi’s sister, Ntombikayise Ngwenya (58), said the gogo was terrified when the 19-year-old robbed her this month and threatened to kill her.

Her decomposing body was found on Thursday, a week after she was butchered in Heidelberg’s Ratanda kasi, Gauteng.

“The suspect told police he killed her because he wanted the house,” she said.

Ntombikayise said that the youth robbed her of her TVs, blankets, pots and a stove – and sold them.

“We opened a case against him and he was supposed to have appeared in court for theft this week,” she said.

“She was found a week after she was killed,” said Ntombikayise.

The family learned of the gogo’s murder from a friend of the suspect.

Ntombikayise said the youth gave this friend the keys to the house so he could sleep there.

But there was such a bad smell that the friend couldn’t sleep. That’s when he found gogo’s body.

“The friend called us and the police to see the scene of horror in the house,” she said.

Sondi’s brother, Fourboy Ngwenya (59), said he wanted the youth to rot in jail.

“My sister was stressed by his behaviour.

“He used to steal her pension money and her belongings for nyaope and dagga,” he said.

) Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant Kay Makhubela confirmed that a suspect was arrested for murder. He also faced robbery and theft charges.

“The suspect will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court soon,” said Makhubela.
