AfriForum’s WCape emergency fire fund

Organisation says immediate need is the people and animals on the ground, rebuilding will come later

AfriForum’s Western Cape emergency fire fund

20 April 2021

It is with sadness that AfriForum has taken note of the fires that have been raging in the Mother City for these last few days. That is why the civil rights organisation decided to establish an emergency fund for the people who are currently fighting the fires, rescue workers and support personnel. We will also be able to meet the needs of the SPCA by channeling donations to them.

The damage to infrastructure and heritage monuments is regrettable and the rebuilding and restoration of these will have to be a priority at a later stage. At the moment the immediate need is the people and animals on the ground as well as the surrounding areas that are suffering as a result of secondary consequences like evacuation and limited donations. Largescale collection points are already in place and the emergency workers and SPCA are already swamped with water donations.

On 19 April AfriForum made direct contact with particular roleplayers to identify items that are needed, but are not received through donations at this point.

We encourage people to still deliver donations at their nearest points if possible, but to also keep an eye on AfriForum’s social media for more information on focused donations.

If you cannot deliver a donation yourself, you can also support us by making a donation to the Western Cape emergency fire fund.
