The Democratic Alliance has opened a case of intimidation, physical assault and illegal use of firearm following an incident where a DA supporter was attacked by a group of armed men traveling with the uMzimkhulu ANC Deputy Mayor, Sindisiwe Nkala and uMzimkhulu ward 4 candidate.
The incident took place in the Intsikeni area where DA supporter Emmanual Dubazana had been campaigning for the upcoming local government elections.
The ANC Deputy Mayor and her four bodyguards allegedly visited Dubazana's home while trying to establish his whereabouts. They intimidated his mother and family, threatening that if Dubazana continued to campaign for the DA, there would be severe consequences for him and his family.
On receiving this information Dubazana immediately reported threats of intimidation against him and his family at Intsikeni police station. It was shortly after this that shots were fired at Dubazana’s vehicle and he was pulled over by the ANC Deputy Mayor and her bodyguards. He was physically pulled out of the vehicle and threatened by the four bodyguards. All four men were armed and during the verbal threats firearms were pointed at Dubazana threatening him to stop campaigning for the DA in the area. When Dubazana refused to accede to their threats and indicating he was fulfilling his democratic rights, he was beaten over the head with a firearm sustained deep lacerations and is currently hospitalised
