ANC KZN embarks on huge recruitment campaign

Sihle Zikalala says party's goal is 350,000 members by the end of July

ANC EMBARKS ON A HUGE RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has embarked on a massive recruitment campaign targeting new potential members and also encouraging existing members to renew their membership.

Although KwaZulu-Natal is the largest province with more than 250 000 members, our snap survey shows that scores of people in this province want to join the ANC, according to Provincial Secretary of the ANC Comrade Sihle Zikalala.

"That is why we have decided to go to every part of KwaZulu-Natal to assist people to become members of the ANC. We have no doubt that our campaign will see our membership growing exponentially in the next few months. Our goal is to have 350 000 ANC members in KwaZulu-Natal before the end of July this year," he said.

The campaign is part of the Imvuselelo Campaign, a huge national recruitment campaign which saw the ANC reaching a million members before its centenary in January this year.

As part of the campaign, the ANC in the province conducts door to door visits across the length and breadth of the province.

"Although many people have been predicting the demise of the ANC, our organization has confounded the prophets of doom by continuing to grow in leaps and bounds. The ANC remains the only movement that carries the hope and aspirations of our people. This is evidenced by the latest figures which show that the total verified ANC membership in the province is 252 637," Zikalala said.

Zikalala said during the ANC centenary flame celebrations in April, people from all race groups told ANC leaders that they wanted to become ANC members, adding that scores of people from the minority groups also showed a huge interest of joining our movement.

"Although the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has performed exceptionally well during the elections, we have in` the past few years noted with concern the decline of its support among Coloureds, Indians and Whites. As a movement which is a leading light in champion non-racialism, the ANC strongly believes that winning the support of Indian, Coloured and White communities in the province is fundamental for social cohesion and our project of nation building."
