ANC KZN secures landslide victory in three by-elections

Party says results demonstrate that movement's hold on its base remains secure

ANC WINS ALL THREE BY-ELECTIONS IN KWAZULU-NATAL

4 July 2013

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal received a landslide victory in all three by-elections held in the province yesterday (3 July 2013) which is a clear demonstration that our movement remains rooted in its constituencies and it continues to sustain its base.

In KwaDukuza Municipality's Ward 6, the ANC took the ward with a whopping 1247 votes; while the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) took a mere 100 votes and the National Freedom Party (NFP) only scored 26 votes.

In Ward 12 of the same municipality, people also showed their unwavering support for the ANC during yesterday's by-election. The ANC received 1060 votes while the NFP and IFP combined received less than 300 votes.

In Vulamehlo Municipality on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, the ANC received 1173 votes while the Democratic Alliance (DA) which always claims to have taken a sizeable number of ANC supporters in KwaZulu-Natal received just above 200 votes.

We are greatly humbled by the trust, the confidence and the love which millions of people in South Africa have for this glorious movement. The massive gap between the ANC and other parties is a strong indication that people appreciate the work being done by the ANC in the provincial government and the municipalities it leads.

The ANC will continue to work hard to ensure that people's lives are improved. We call on the people to work with our councilors. We also pledge to ensure that councilors work and remain accountable to the people.

The results of the by-elections reflect what will happen in the next year's General Elections. We once again appeal to all young people to get IDs and register to vote. This is the only way our youth will be counted amongst those who defended and advanced freedom, democracy and development.
