ANC must defend parly from DA & Co. – SACP

Trivialisation of parliament and hooliganism must be stopped, says party

Parliament must serve the people, not the twin dangers of trivialisation and hooliganisation to attract uncritical attention

Statement on DA’s failed frivolous motion of no confidence

02 September 2015

The South African Communist Party (SACP) is disappointed at the rising unnecessary competition between some parliamentary opposition parties to waste the time and resources of parliament, derail and defocus it from paying attention on the pressing issues facing an overwhelming majority of our people.

In all of this, the workers and the poor are denied an opportunity to have parliament focus on their plight as more time is wasted on frivolous motions that have no prospects of success such as the DA’s failed vexatious motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.

The trivialisation of parliament, as its hooliganisation, driven by popularity seeking stunts to attract uncritical media attention must come to an end now. The SACP calls on the ANC to decisively exercise its democratic majority to defend parliament and reposition it to focus on important issues affecting our people.
