ANC must recall all its councilors in Tlokwe Municipality: Statement of the ANC Youth League in respect to the removal of the Mayor
The African National Congress Youth League wants to emphatically voice its disappointment and displeasure at the conduct of councillors of the African National Congress in Tlokwe Municipality. Their reckless act which resulted in the election of a DA councillor as Mayor in that Municipality was senseless and a serious setback to our programme of fundamental and lasting socio-economic transformation.
While the country is embroiled in discussions about the impact of a motion of no confidence on the President of the country, these councillors callously take a decision to pass a motion of no confidence on the Mayor with disastrous results, undermining the wishes of the electorate to be led by the legitimate leader of the people, the African National Congress.
It is expected that the national leadership of the ANC must act decisively and recall all those ANC councillors in the Tlokwe Municipality. In the very first instance, challenges that the ANC caucus in that municipality had with the Mayor should have been dealt within the confines of the ANC and never allowed to spill over to the council in the manner that they did.
If the Mayor or any other deployed cadre whether to council, legislature or parliament, fails to live up to the expectations that the ANC has of them; these comrades are expected to be disciplined and relinquish such a position where an objective, constitutional structure of the ANC with the requisite authority takes such a decision, taking cognizant of the forums for debate and appeal within the organization.
The ANC as a whole must also consolidate its processes to deal with issues of non-performance and reassert discipline in the organization. We trust that new councilors with the proper tools of analysis, consciousness and strategic clarity will fill the positions of those foolish enough to derail our hard won gains and undermine the wishes of our people.
