ANC takes over Cederberg mayoralty from PAC

Parties switch positions as ANC gains majority on council

JOINT STATEMENT BY THE W/CAPE ANC & PAC: Cederberg Council to be reconstituted at next sitting

After deliberations the ANC and PAC today mutually agreed to reconstitute the Cederberg Municipal Council at its next sitting this coming Tuesday (27 September 2011).

At that council meeting the ANC will assume the position of mayor, which was held by the PAC thus far. The PAC will take up the position of deputy mayor.

The ANC holds the majority in the council with 6 representatives. The DA has 2 and the PAC and Cope 1 each. There is also a vacancy where a DA councillor resigned and joined the ANC.

A partnership was formed between the ANC and PAC after the general municipal election in May this year. These fellowliberation movements share strong concern for the poor and historically oppressed people of the Western Cape.

"The ANC and PAC are defenders of the 1994 victory over a system of oppression and discrimination. The partnership with the PAC is of significance as it led to two truly African parties joining hands to dispel a white supremacist view that Africans cannot govern.

"We are proceeding with our constructive co-operation with each other, sharing the vision and values towards building better communities for all our people," says the Western Cape ANC and PAC.
