Another of our branch leaders assassinated in Marikana - NUM

Union says branch secretary at Western Platinum shot and killed in his house

NUM branch secretary killed

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is shocked at yet another assassination of one of its branch leaders in Marikana. A branch secretary of the union at Western Platinum was shot and killed at his house in Marikana this evening.

This comes after the death of the NUM Branch chairperson last weekend and the attack on another branch leader who escaped whilst his wife was killed. The National Union of Mineworkers calls on the police and all other law enforcement agencies to take drastic action to stop these killings. The union and its members are gradually losing confidence in the ability of the police services to protect innocent civilians.

Statement issued by Lesiba Seshoka, NUM National Spokesman, October 5 2012
