We welcome the assignment of responsibilities for State-Owned Enterprises

27 August 2024

The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes and fully supports the recent decisions taken by President Cyril Ramaphosa regarding the reassignment of shareholder responsibilities for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to the respective line-function Ministries. This significant step aligns with the ANC's longstanding commitment to ensuring that SOEs operate effectively and contribute meaningfully to the national developmental agenda.

In line with the resolutions taken at the ANC's 54th and 55th National Conferences, the repositioning of SOEs under the appropriate ministries is a crucial step towards enhancing their operational efficiency and strategic alignment with national priorities.

The ANC has always advocated for a governance framework that enables SOEs to fulfill their mandates in the best interest of the South African people, ensuring that they are managed with integrity, accountability, and a focus on delivering public value.

The ANC views these developments as a progressive step towards revitalizing SOEs, strengthening governance, and ensuring that these entities serve the needs of the South African people. We are confident that this approach will lead to improved service delivery, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.

We are certain that this administration will ensure that these transformational achievements will be implemented successfully and that our SOEs are positioned to drive our nation's developmental goals forward.
