Attack on leaders of the movement an attack on NDR - SACP Gauteng

PEC also dismisses wild ambitions of the DA to win province in next elections

SACP Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee, 8 December 2012

SACP Gauteng PEC Press Statement

SACP Gauteng ends the year on a high note, and congratulates the leadership collective under President Jacob Zuma to lead our country very well under complex and difficult conditions.

The South African Communist Party's Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee held its regular meeting on Saturday, 8th December 2012 at POPCRU provincial office. PEC discussed political and organisational matters, and further analysed developments in the world and here at home.

PEC noted and appreciated the qualitative and quantitative growth of the SACP in the Province, and that the year 2012 will go down in history as the year in which the SACP successfully repositioned itself as the true and only Marxist-Leninist vanguard party of the working class and the poor in Gauteng.

PEC agreed that since the SACP 10th Provincial Congress held in April this year, the SACP firmly rooted its activities and programmes within working class communities. PEC successfully led the following activities:

  • Celebrations of the 91st Anniversary of the SACP.
  • Red October Campaign marches to the SABC to call for the dissolution of the Board, the service delivery and Anti-Corruption Protest March to the Midvaal Municipality.
  • Centenary lecture and hosting of the Centenary Flame to mark the historic relationship of the SACP and ANC.
  • Consistent defence of the people of Lenasia against the most backward and inhuman demolition of houses post 1994 democratic elections (see also below).

PEC noted that the SABC and the Midvaal Municipality failed to meet the deadline stated in the memorandum of demands during the protest marches.

PEC resolved to develop a clear and consistent political programme of action immediately next year, and to ensure that the demands contained in both memorandums to the DA Midvaal Municipality and the SABC are met with immediate effect.

In addition, the PEC appreciated and welcomed progress made to maintain maximum unity of the SACP in the province.

PEC further noted challenges facing the Alliance in the province, especially those relating to the living conditions of the working class and the poor. PEC resolved to strengthen the Alliance, and ensure that it has programmes and activities that are firmly rooted within the working class.

PEC also dismissed extreme right-wing speculation and wild ambitions of the DA to win the province during the next round of national elections.

PEC reaffirmed the character of the DA as the real and direct puppet that represents the interests of monopoly capital and those of Imperialism to abort and weaken the NDR. PEC resolved to work tirelessly and consistently to defeat the agenda of Imperialism led by the DA.

Renewed attacks against President Jacob Zuma and SACP GS Blade Nzimande

PEC noted the renewed and intensified spate of reactionary, unprincipled and personal attacks against the President of the ANC and General Secretary of the SACP, comrades Jacob Zuma and Blade Nzimande respectively.

PEC condemned these attacks, and reaffirmed its view that communists should be in the forefront of the fight to defeat this malicious and counter-revolutionary slander, lies and distortions against leaders of our movement and its revolution. PEC agreed that an attack on leaders of the movement is a direct attack on the NDR and its motive forces.

PEC congratulated President Jacob Zuma and his leadership collective for leading our country in the best manner possible under the most difficult and complex conditions, and successfully protecting our country against threats and problems faced by other countries in Europe such as Greece, Portugal, Spain, Egypt, and Syria to mention just but a few.

Comparatively speaking, our country is far much better, except for the persisting contradictions of the legacy of Imperialism of more than 300 years, combined with the negative impact of the conservative austerity measures and policies of the 1996 Class Project. PEC agreed that President Jacob Zuma should not be personally blamed for these contradictions and challenges.

PEC also appreciated that this leadership is returning the ANC to its historic place of birth in Mangaung, fully united with its Alliance partners.

PEC resolved that as part of consolidating its work of rooting the Party firmly within the working class and poor, the PEC will hold all its remaining PEC meetings during this term in working class areas, preferably schools in townships and informal settlements.

Public Transport and E-Tolls

PEC noted the ongoing protests led by COSATU on E-Tolls, and reaffirmed its historic position, that a thorough and deeper investigation on the history and genesis of this crisis must be conducted and those responsible should be held accountable.

PEC reaffirmed its historic position and called for a safe, affordable, and reliable public transport.

Lenasia Housing Crisis; World Aids Day; 16 Days Campaign Against Women and Children Abuse

PEC noted the current and ongoing process to resolve the Lenasia situation since the decisive ruling of the court to stop demolitions and opportunistic land invasions.

PEC resolved to meet with Lenasia Concerned Residents Association to receive feedback and facts about the current process, and to engage the Alliance on the matter.

PEC also welcomed progress our country is making to curb the spread of HIV/Aids, and the fight against the abuse of women and children.

PEC wished all communists, revolutionary forces, the working class and poor well during the festive period.
