Blessers must fall, ANCYL tells top officials

Mbombela – The problem of “blessers” was due to a lack of opportunities for young people, the ANCYL has told Mpumalanga provincial government leaders.

“The majority of our young people are hungry; they are not employed. Instead we see hunger in their eyes,” ANC Youth League deputy president Desmond Moela said at a discussion hosted by Premier David Mabuza’s office on Wednesday.

“Blessers” are older men who give young women money, gifts, or other benefits in exchange for sex.

“That is why there is this thing of blessers, which is trending nowadays because of hunger. We have to fight this issue of blessers. They must fall," Moela said.

Moela told more than 1 000 young people at the event that as head of the youth directorate he had asked some MECs to ensure that Mpumalanga’s youth benefitted from government projects.

These included the building of RDP houses.
