Call for for legal accountability for inhumane slaughter of two women – NADEL

Violence inflicted upon these individuals is a stark reminder that our battle for human rights and dignity is far from over

A cry for justice: Condemning the inhumane slaughter and urging for legal accountability

2 September 2024

The National Association of Democratic Lawyers (Nadel) unequivocally condemns the recent, heart-wrenching acts of brutality where two women were horrifically murdered on a farm in Limpopo. This appalling act of violence, which saw two women seeking basic subsistence for their families cruelly killed and fed to pigs. This, along with the senseless killing of two men on a farm in Mpumalanga, has left our association shocked and horrified.

The violence inflicted upon these individuals is a stark reminder that our battle for human rights and dignity is far from over. We call upon every Nadel member to join us in condemning these atrocious acts and to work collectively towards creating a safe, respectful, and humane environment for all.

Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims. These acts of violence are not only a gross violation of the fundamental human right to life but also reflect a deep-seated disregard for human dignity and humanity.

Mvuzo Notyesi, the President of Nadel stated that “we demand an immediate and thorough investigation into these heinous crimes. The perpetrators must be swiftly brought to justice, ensuring that such barbarism is met with the full force of the law. It is imperative that legal mechanisms work efficiently and transparently to restore faith in the rule of law. The government and community organizations must extend support to the families affected by these atrocities. Psychological, financial, and legal assistance should be readily available to help them navigate through this dark period.”

Nadel remains steadfast in its mission to promote the transformation of the legal profession and to champion the cause of human rights. We are committed to advocating for justice, providing legal support to marginalized communities, and fostering a legal system that is equitable and just for all. In solidarity, we stand with the victims and their families and reaffirm our dedication to fighting against all forms of violence and injustice. Nadel therefore urges policymakers to strengthen legal frameworks to ensure better protection of vulnerable groups and to prevent such acts of violence in the future. This includes the enhancement of laws related to gender-based violence, community safety, and social justice.
