DA WC refers Cllr. Jaftha to Federal Legal Commission

10 June 2015

The Democratic Alliance Western Cape has today referred the case of Councillor Willie Desmond Jaftha to the DA’s Federal Legal Commission for investigation and disciplinary action.

The DA unequivocally distances itself from Councillor Jaftha’s written submissions in mitigation of sentence of a convicted gangster in the Geweld Thomas case.

The DA believes that convicted gangsters must receive the harshest sentences possible in law.

Last night the Provincial Executive Committee of the DA Western Cape met to discuss this matter, and resolved the following:

1. The preliminary suspension of Councillor Jaftha was confirmed, and extended until all investigation and disciplinary procedures are completed, and

2. To refer the investigation and disciplinary procedure to the DA’s Federal Legal Commission.

The Federal Legal Commission will now investigate the facts and will hold disciplinary hearings for any transgressions of the DA’s constitution.

The DA Western Cape will cooperate with the Federal Legal Commission’s investigation, in all ways possible.
