DA challenges community to take ownership of Roodepoort Primary school

4 September 2015

The DA welcomes the re-opening of the Roodepoort Primary school which will resume classes on Wednesday 9 September 2015.

The DA further thanks the mediation team that worked tirelessly to address the issues identified through the mediation process.

We urge all parties involved to implement the mediation panel recommendations as the learners are the most affected in this debacle.

Learners of this school deserve the same opportunities to learn as their peers, and the prompt mediation that took a collective effort with all stakeholders could not have been an easy process.

Learners have been left behind regarding their curriculum due to disruption. The DA believes that they will get all necessary support to catch up so they can realise their economic opportunities.

We urge the Gauteng Education Department to ensure that all learners are in involved in the curriculum catch-up program which the Department aims to set in place.

The DA further challenges the Davidsonville community and surrounding communities that in taking ownership of Roodepoort Primary school that the interests of the leaners come first.

While the first round of mediation maybe over, the DA believes that the mediation team should continuously engage with all stakeholders in the months to come – thus preventing any further dissatisfaction to spiral out of control.

The DA will continue to monitor the situation and engage with all stakeholders as the need arises.

Education is a basic right for all our children and as the foundation to securing a better future for our country – it should never be compromised.
