Competent CEO needed for Bara - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says uncertainty over position undermines Gauteng DoH's turnaround plans

WHEN WILL NEW BARA CEO BE APPOINTED?

A competent replacement for Ms Johana More, the outgoing CEO of Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, needs to be appointed as soon as possible.

According to reports, Ms More will be leaving at the end of December.

The uncertainty about the future leadership of the hospital undermines the Gauteng Health Department's turn-around plans.

This hospital has suffered from frequent management changes as there have been five CEOs in the past 10 years.

Slow progress has been made in appointing a new CEO even though the post was advertised in May this year.

More's tenure has been marked by deep controversy as staff shortages and equipment failure hurt patient care. Earlier this year, doctors went over her head to appeal to National Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to appoint more nurses in the maternity unit.

Managing this hospital is one of the toughest jobs in South Africa. We need a superbly qualified and experienced CEO to win the confidence of staff and provide the best quality care with available resources.
