COSAS just rented ‘toothless-dogs'

Thembinkosi Zondi says students just barking at unstoppable reelection of Julius Malema

Open letter to the Provincial Executive Committees of Cosas in KwaZulu Natal and Limpopo!

Dear Provincial Executive Committees of KwaZulu Natal and Limpopo

As part of the first line of defense for economic freedom fighters, I should perhaps begin by mentioning that I would not have bothered to write this open letter in an ordinary situation. But I decided to after you, typical of an immature child talking about issues beyond its understanding and mandate, deviated from your core mandates to being the proverbial rented ‘toothless-dogs' barking at the unstoppable reelection of the Commander of all ANC Youth League Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema (see here).

As an ANC YL member, I have a revolutionary duty to STAND BY ALL OUR LEADERS. Leaders who are unapologetic about translating political power into economic freedom in our lifetime particularly as we build towards the ANC 2012 Centenary Celebrations.

Dear Provincial Executive Committees, I assume that you might have heard that elementary politics 101 teaches us that "the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of the class struggle" (Marx and Engels 1848). While noting that the youth is not a class but a stratum in transition and the non-racialism and non-sexism elements of our struggle, I would add that in the post-apartheid South Africa the main struggle is about political and economic power. This power must be used to change the material conditions in favor of the forces of change or the toiling masses.

The struggle for political and economic power is between the haves and have-nots. To succeed, it must produce revolutionary leaders; have a revolutionary movement and a program. Victory is inevitable certain hence those who oppose it will recruit and rent dogs even from our own ranks to fabricate foolish fairytales and cook false charges since this is the only easiest route to defeat this struggle.

It's interesting to note that some of these rented dogs are found within our own ranks as Oliver Tambo once said: they wear the same revolutionary t-shirts, speak the same revolutionary language and sing the same revolutionary songs (and sometimes they are theoretically eloquent better than us). Accordingly, I uncompromisingly argue that the defense for Julius Malema equals the defense for the struggle to translate political power to economic freedom in our life time.

Having said so, we must continue to exercise our right to engage in self-criticism, constructive criticism, complement and contradict but not in a factionalist, populist and opportunistic fashion as you did in your media statements that were jointly published by the politicsweb on March 15 2011. For instance, the main focus of the last part of the Kzn Cosas statement says that you "...acknowledge the mistake (you) did prior 2008 Mangaung Nasrec Conference...and (that you) are glad that (you) have learnt from it...(you) therefore resolved in correcting history and bring the ANC YL to its rightful owners (masses)..." through supporting certain leaders.

While, you (i.e. Limpopo Cosas PEC) also attempted to ridicule Julius Malema and his collective by saying that you want leaders that can talk about free education before talking nationalization and not the one that will "...not represent factionalism and tendency of getting tenders in our name".

I urge you, dear PECs, to stop being agents and rented dogs for those who oppose the economic freedom struggle because you will be defeated. You should desist from claiming easy victories about your contribution to the previous YL congresses. You should know that you do not have any voting powers, as Cosas, beyond merely delivering a message of support (in the YL congress not and conference).

You must also remember that the ANC, as the leader of the alliance, took a resolution which was endorsed by the ANC 2010 National General Council that public spats do not only shift our focus from the real struggle but it also weakness the movement as a whole. By now, you should at least know that you have no right to interfere with internal leadership-related issues of the YL except through your respective YL branches. You therefore focus on being in class on time and learning instead of chasing after media cameras.

By way of conclusion, the tendency to issue preferential list for another alliance partner was part of sub-cultures strategically adopted for the purposes of the "Polokwane 2007 Project". Therefore, we should liquidate these subcultures lest they liquidate us. Finally, you must be warned that the majority of YL branches will not only defeat you but will also hit you hard till your handler comes out barking as well.
