Western Cape amends terms of provincial intervention in Oudtshoorn
Following recent events in Oudtshoorn the Western Cape Provincial Government, in consultation with the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, has amended the terms and conditions of the provincial intervention whereby the Oudtshoorn municipality was placed under administration from 31 July 2015.
Alan Winde, the Acting Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape, has today sent a letter to all councillors in Oudtshoorn informing them of the amendments.
The amended terms are as follows:
With immediate effect, all executive authority of the council of Oudtshoorn now vests in the Administrator currently in Oudtshoorn. All executive actions relating to the management of the Oudtshoorn Municipality will henceforth be taken by the current Administrator and not the council.
The role of Municipal Manager / Accounting Officer also now vests in the Administrator until such time as a new acting Municipal Manager is appointed following due consultation with the relevant provincial and National Ministers.
