The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape is proud to officially announce its candidates for Wards 20 and 27 in the upcoming by-elections in George. Neville Louw has been selected as the candidate for Ward 20, and Fernando Fredericks has been selected as the candidate in Ward 27. These announcements were made during two separate highly anticipated events held in George today.

The event for Ward 27 took place at Vaal Winkel, Fern Street, Pacaltsdorp, while the event for Ward 20 was held at Kids Stop, Borcherds.

Dr Mimmy Gondwe, the DA Constituency Head for George, expressed enthusiasm and excitement about the newly announced candidates, stating, " Neville Louw and Fernando Fredericks both joined the DA having previously been activists in the GOOD party. They are two exceptional individuals who have consistently demonstrated their unwavering commitment and dedication to the communities they live in. We are proud to have them as part of our team and look forward to them winning Wards 20 and 27.”

Neville Louw, the candidate for Ward 20, expressed his aspirations, saying, "I want to make a meaningful contribution and lasting impact through serving the people in my community, bringing my experience with various youth groups, sports clubs, youth activities, and programmes while understanding the issues and concerns our people face. Relying on my faith in God and being equipped with the skills, confidence, and ability to take action, I want to make a difference."

Fernando Fredericks, the candidate for Ward 27, shared his thoughts on his candidacy, saying, "I am running as the Ward candidate for the DA to restore and rebuild our people's trust in the DA. The expertise that I will bring to this role is that I'm a very good problem solver and a good listener. I work well under pressure, and my effective time management will be a great asset to this role. Most importantly, I will love what I'm doing, being able to help our community where we can."

Premier Alan Winde expressed his well wishes for the candidates and encouraged residents to actively participate in the upcoming by-elections. "I extend my best wishes to Neville Louw and Fernando Fredericks as they embark on their campaigns. It is crucial for the residents of Ward 20 and Ward 27 to exercise their democratic rights and make their voices heard. Together, we can work towards a prosperous future, paving the way forward, by-election by by-election, for a DA-led National Government in the 2024 national and provincial government elections," Premier Winde emphasised.

The DA encourages all those that are registered to vote in Ward 16, 20 and 27 to come out and vote in three by-elections which are schedule to take place on Wednesday, 19 July 2023.
