ANC's support in Ditsobotla drops to 40% - Leon Basson

DA NWest leader says his party won 14,93% of the vote in the by-elections

Growth in DA Ditsobotla support pushes ANC under 40% and out of majority

15 December 2022

The DA in North West is elated by the Ditsobotla by-election results released today. Our promise to rebuild Ditsobotla resonated with voters, and they continue to increasingly place their trust in the only party that is capable to rebuild what the ANC has destroyed over the last three decades.

The DA obtained 14.93% of the vote, a growth from the 14.4% result during last year’s local government elections. We performed exceptionally well in Wards 6, 7, and 15, showing increased DA support.

The election of six DA Councillors sets the DA up to be at the centre of determining the future governance of this municipality. We will announce more about this in due course.

The ANC’s performance yesterday dropped to just 39.82% of the vote. This by-election is a watershed moment in electoral politics and sets the pace to see the fall of the ANC below 50% nationally in 2024, ushering in a new era of a DA-led national government.

Thirteen parties contested yesterday’s by-election, when voters split the opposition, the ANC wins, which makes an ANC/EFF alliance of corruption and failure increasingly likely.

The DA’s project towards 2024 is to work hard to win over those voters, to the growing DA, where they can be assured of a powerful and successful challenge to the ANC.

We would like to thank every resident that came out in the rain to vote DA yesterday. Together, we move forward towards rebuilding Ditsobotla, the North West, and in 2024, South Africa.
