DA in Gauteng retains three wards in triple by-election victory

28 August 2024

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng retained Wards 87 and 89 in Johannesburg, and Ward 92 in Tshwane, in a triple victory during the province’s by-elections, held on Wednesday, 28 August.

Following the encouraging results of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections (NPE), the noticeable growth we have seen in the outcome of these three by-elections is an affirmation of the electorate’s belief in the DA.

The results are as follows:
- Ward 92, Tshwane grew from 33.6%% in 2021 to 59.17% in 2024;
- Ward 89, Johannesburg grew from 68.1% in 2021 to 96.34%% in 2024 and;
- Ward 87, Johannesburg grew from 65.2% in 2021 to 83.17% in 2024

We are highly encouraged by the results in Tshwane, reaffirming that voters believe in the DA’s ability and proven track record of good, clean governance.

The DA is committed to continue working hard on behalf of residents. We are confident that the newly elected ward Councillors Shimmy Mashamaite (Ward 92, Tshwane), Zander Shawe (Ward 89, Johannesburg) and Kyle Jacobs (Ward 87, Johannesburg) will serve their communities fiercely. Our heartfelt congratulations and well-wishes accompany them.

We are especially encouraged by the results in Tshwane, reaffirming that voters believe in the DA’s ability and proven track record of good, clean governance.

We thank all the residents who voted for us and helped the DA to retain these wards. Our commitment to them remains unchanged – good governance and holding the breakers to account.
